The Iron Pipeline

The Iron Pipeline

Fourteen hands-on QA trials at the Citadel: reconstruct an outage timeline, triage a backlog, map risk, trace requirements to tests, drive a postmortem to root cause, run a timed exploratory session. Then fund four testing pillars and raise the CI/CD war pipeline.

What it covers

  • The Ravens' Order – A defect has flown in from the field. The Maester will not let you touch the treasury until you can send the ravens in the order the realm must act.
  • Words of the Citadel – A page of the Citadel's own doctrine has faded. Restore the missing words and the vaults will open.
  • The Small Council Table – Six findings sit before the Small Council on the eve of release. The King wants to sail. You must say which findings hold the ship.
  • The Maester's Ladder – Before the Citadel funds a single test, it wants proof you know how one is designed. Climb the ladder in order.
  • The Ledger of Costs – The Grand Maester's ledger records what every defect cost the realm. Ink has run on the crucial lines.
  • The Forge or the Ranging – The smiths of Winterfell forge what will be swung a thousand times. The rangers walk where no map exists. Every test belongs to one or the other.
  • The Long Night – Checkout fell for twenty-seven minutes in the small hours. The ravens carrying the logs arrived out of order, as ravens do. Rebuild the night.
  • The Raven Backlog – Fifteen reports have come in from the field since the last moon. The Small Council will not read fifteen things. Sort them before the meeting.
  • The Ambiguous Decree – The Citadel has issued a decree governing the ravenry. It is, as decrees tend to be, not quite testable. Design the cases anyway, and say plainly wher
  • The Heat of the Realm – Six parts of the realm, one testing budget. Before you can spend it you must say, in public and in writing, where you think it will break and what it
  • The Chain of Custody – The decree has requirements. The Citadel has test cases. Nobody has ever checked whether the second set covers the first.
  • The Postmortem – The realm has stopped bleeding. Now write down what happened, in the form the Citadel accepts, so that the next Master of Testing inherits the lesson
  • The Ranging – A charter, a clock, and a flow nobody has mapped. Rangers do not carry test scripts beyond the Wall; they carry a mission and their attention.
  • The Small Council Estimates – The Council wants numbers by nightfall. Numbers are cheap; the reasoning behind them is what the Council is actually buying.
